Finding an application
There are many online applications you can use to animate. Some cost money, and others are free. My favourite application is Krita. It’s free, reliable, and has most of the tools you will ever need. This tutorial is also on using Krita for animation.
Procedure
First, you need to create a new document. I have set mine as the width of 1920 and height of 1080. This setting best fits Youtube. You can also adjust the resolution, but for now, keep it at 100.
Once you have finished adjusting the setting, you can click create.
Now that you have created the document, the page format is quite simple. It should resemble most other applications, such as photoshop, illustrator, etc. I will not go into details on the tools.
Some handy tools are located right in the settings located on the top of the screen. Once you have found it, click it for the drop-down menu. In the drop-down menu, make sure the show docker is checked, and also click dockers for another drop-down menu.
In the docker’s drop-down menu, click and check timeline, animations and onion skins. These three tools are what allow you to edit.
In the timeline, you can right-click to create keyframes to edit. Make sure to check onion skin to see previous frames.
You can select how many frames are played per second in frame rate under the animations tab. The frame rate should be 24.
